The pandemic dissuaded over a million students from enrolling in college, but skilled trades like construction and HVAC have seen as much as a 40% boost in some places. In an NPR report, Elissa Nadworny details Texas State Technical College, just one site where young people are eagerly flocking to meet the great demand for skilled tradespeople. Thankfully, more and more people are discovering the lack of debt, high salaries, and fulfilling work that the trades entail.
